In the latest Africa report with Thembisa Fakude, Senior Research Fellow at Africa-Asia Dialogues, several critical regional developments were discussed, shedding light on ongoing challenges and potential opportunities.

One of the significant topics of discussion was the joint efforts of Saudi Arabia and the United States to end the war in Sudan.

Historically, the two nations have managed to achieve certain ceasefires in the past, including one between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudanese armed forces. However, the recent discovery of 87 bodies in a mass grave in Darfur and the bombing of civilians in a town near Omdurman have led to a deteriorating situation.

Fakude emphasised the importance of achieving a longer-lasting ceasefire this time around.

For meaningful progress towards peace, it is essential to address the financial support provided to armed factions. While the Sudanese armed forces are internationally
