Patrick Herbert George was born at Wilmslow, Cheshire on 28 July , son of Alfred Herbert George (17 February April ), a merchant turned farmer, and his wife Nora Richards (20 February ), only daughter of the late George Richards of West Didsbury, who married at Christ Church, West Didsbury Manchester on 5 February Patrick was a student at Downs Preparatory School, Herefordshire, the Quaker school for Malvern College, where artist Maurice Feild () taught him.
