Yaroslav the wise short biography

One of the greatest princes of Kievan Rus, the son of the Polotsk princess Rogneda and Vladimir the Great is Yaroslav the Wise. A brief biography and all the facts of his life are taken by historians from The Tale of Bygone Years, a chronicle that has survived to this day.

Yaroslav was born in 978-979 (the date of his birth is not known for certain). In 987, despite his young age, he was 9 years old, he was named the Prince of Rostov.
